The Biggest news was that Rowena was a double finalist in the PEARL AWARDS, and that she won an Honorable Mention in the BEST NEW AUTHOR category. Rowena also spoke at the New England LET YOUR IMAGINATION TAKE FLIGHT CONFERENCE.
Rowena's topic was Characterization when your hero is not human. One of the (many) discoveries was how great writing can quickly engage the reader, so that she is willing to suspend disbelief and imagine herself as the heroine.
Authors who contributed covers and excerpts are: Rowena Cherry, FORCED MATE and MATING NET
Rowena will be at the Romantic Times Conference in St. Louis MO from April 26th until May 1st. She will be signing copies of FORCED MATE at the Romantic Times Book Fair at the Millenium Hotel in the afternoon of Saturday April 30th. Rowena will also be signing copies of FORCED MATE on Sunday May 1st at
The store number is 314-966-6627. Rowena would be absolutely delighted to see anyone who lives close by. |

This month Rowena brings you an exclusive interview with multi-published Zebra author, Amanda Ashley.
INTERVIEW RC Thank you for taking the time to chat, Amanda. You've had some great looking covers. Is there a story behind any of your covers? Is that really Fabio on the cover of SUNLIGHT?
AA Yes, that's him. He's also on the cover of Comanche Flame. Stories? The horse on the cover of The Angel and the Outlaw is a real horse and belongs to someone who knew someone at Leisure Books. I don't remember the details, but it's a beautiful horse. RC Which came first, Fabio on the cover, or your description "Maybe it wasn't Fabio she should compare him to at all..."? AA My description. Covers aren't created until after a book has been accepted. Covers are usually done 6 months before publication. RC Who, if anyone, did you have in mind when you described your hero from A DARKER DREAM? "He loomed over her, his long black hair framing his face like a dark cloud..."
AA Probably Frank Langella, who is my favorite Dracula. RC Of all your covers, which cover is your favorite? AA I think my favorite historical cover is The Angel and the Outlaw.
AA Midnight Fire would be my second choice. My favorite vampire cover is from my first vampire book, Embrace the Night. However, I have to say that it's really hard to choose because I've loved 99.9% of my covers!
RC Which of your novels, to date, is your favorite? AA Oh, gosh, I don't know how I'd pick just one. RC When did you write your first vampire novel? AA I wrote Embrace the Night in 1994 and it was published in 1995. Before that, I'd written a short story titled Masquerade for an anthology, which really whet my appetite to do more. RC What first attracted you to vampires? AA Probably Interview With a Vampire by Anne Rice. Then I read a book by Lori Herter and discovered that vampires made great romantic heroes and I was hooked. RC Do you do a lot of research? Have you any favorite Doing-Research stories? Or any favorite sources you'd like to share? AA I do as much research as I need to. I do a lot of it online, but I also have a library of books on Indians and vampires. I also have an online friend, Flo, who's a whiz at finding things for me. She's helped me on a couple of works. RC How long does it take you to write a novel, on average? Would you say that you are organized, or are you a seat-of-the-pantser? AA Six months is about average. I am definitely a by-the-seat-of-my-pants writer. I never know what's going to happen until I write it, although somewhere along the way I do know how a book is going to end. RC Do you find any type of scene harder to write? AA Love scenes…the more books I write, the harder it is to come up with something new! RC What do you find the most fun aspect of being an author? AA The writing itself, of course. The feeling of power that comes with creation, the surprises along the way, like when a character you've decided will be the bad guy simply refuses to be bad! This happened to me in Under Apache Skies. The character, Sanza, was supposed to be the villian but he wouldn't cooperate! RC What is next? Can you give us a hint about your next release? AA My next book, Dakota Dreams, will be out in October. It's about a man wrongfully accused of killing his wife and how he escapes from Yuma Prison to go after his daughter and look for the real killer. My next vampire book will be out next February. It's titled Before Sunrise and is about a vampire serial killer who only kills women with red hair. You can probably guess the color of my heroine's hair. RC Do you have a website? A blog? A newsletter? How can fans find out more about Amanda Ashley and her novels? AA I have all three. My website is www.amandaashley.net RC Is there anything I haven't asked that you'd like to share? AA I can't think of anything. I'd just like to thank all my readers for their support, friendship, and letters and let them know how much I appreciate it. After all, without them, I'd still be writing my books and stashing them under the bed! RC Thank you for taking the time to chat, Amanda. Amanda Ashley, who also writes historical romances as Madeline Baker, started writing simply for the fun of it. She never intended to sell any of her books until a friend encouraged her to take her stories out from under the bed and look for a publisher. And that was how an author was born. In the last 19 years, Madeline has published 23 historical novels, 7 time travels, 8 vampire romances, 3 fantasies, 3 Silhouette Romances, and 10 short stories. When she isn't writing, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and going to the movies. Amanda loves to hear from her readers. You can write to her at PO Box 6321, Norco, CA, 92860. An SASE is appreciated if you wish a reply. You can also email her at DarkWritr@aol.com, or visit her website and access her blog at www.amandaashley.net Back list: |

FORCED MATE
Djinni-Vera has been raised on the small planet of earth where she has been told outrageous tales about the depravity of Prince Tarrant-Arragon. Terrified of the actual sex act she would have to perform if, and when, she was ever married to the man, was enough to send her into a faint. Training hard, she becomes a Saurian Knight. They are they peacekeepers of the galaxy and she is the only female in the group. With her training, she hopes to be able to fight whatever the Prince can throw at her. Kidnapped by the man she does not know is the prince, she tries to escape several times before being trapped with him on his ship. Now traveling through space, she finds herself wavering between remaining safe and pure to allowing this man to make love with her. Prince Tarrant-Arragon is outraged at what he overhears his intended saying about him. It is bad enough he has to maintain a reputation as depraved and ruthless. With ruthlessness, he abducts his intended bride from her home on earth. Under an assumed identity, he starts to court her from the confines of his ship. At every turn, Dijinni thwarts his attempts to get close to her and ease her fears. It is time to resort to trickery and get her to submit to him before they reach his home world. She thinks she is spouting a love poem when he actually has given her the words to the Imperial wedding vows. What will happen when she actually discovers his trickery? This book had me rolling for hours while I read about Tarrant-Arragon's escapades. Dijinni was fabulous in her fight against his overwhelming nature. This book is filled with intrigue, laughter, and steamy heat throughout space. This is an awesome futuristic novel that will have you begging for the next exciting installment from Ms. Cherry! This is one awesome read! Laura
